The upstairs is painted, well, mostly. Painted enough to lay carpet so that is next on the list. When I went down to buy carpet yesterday my friend Stan at Florcraft said he would swap a carpet installation for a door installation so we'll be getting a pro out here next week which is good as I want the stairs to look maavelous. In return I have to turn a window into a door at Stan's house. You see, the economy takes a digger and the barter system thrives... So this weekend will be spent painting the downstairs, designing the kitchen cabinets and tidying up outside as snow is just around the corner...

This week's reader survey: What the hell should I do to finish out under the stairs?
**note there is a monitor heater and breaker box in residence**

Build a bookshelf sort of thing in the area above the breaker box.
It is near the stove though, you can either put a closet road thing there so you can warm winter gear.
Now that I think about it. Build a shelf with mesh instead of boards, so you can throw stuff up there to have it dry. Under that net shelf you can put your coats.
Good place to hang a punching bag. Or a pinata. margaret
On second thought you could go for a unique stair-step shelving system that mirrors the steps.
Current thought is to put in shelves that will follow step contour and perhaps try to tuck a shower in at the end, somewhat NASA inspired... (very small, with a bucket)
